Dear MindShift community, Heres a farewell note from MindShifts founding editor, Tina Barseghian, and an introductory post from MindShifts new editor, Ki Sung. We are extremely grateful to Tina and wish her well! From Tina: Four years ago, I launched MindShift with the singular intention to explore how we will learn. With daily articles over the years, we dug deeply into what parents and teachers want to know most about: ideas and practices that would help kids tap into their natural love of learning. Along the way, we explored complex topics — looking for the grey areas where ideas are still being defined and refined as we speak, including inquiry and student-centered learning, the brain’s growth mindset, different kinds of assessments, and game-based learning. We also explored what it would take to engender profound shifts in ideas and practices from a higher level of looking at the purpose of education, considering things like doing school work that has a direct impact on the world outside of schools’ perimeters. For me, this has been an illuminating and gratifying four years. Above of all what I’ve learned, I always came back to the same point. Our teachers are heroes. And now as I take on another challenge, it’s time to pass the torch to a new editor, Ki-Min Sung, a longtime broadcast and digital journalist at NPR. Ki has been watching the growth of MindShift over the years and will bring a smart and fresh perspective to covering these subjects -- and many more. Katrina Schwartz, our intrepid writer and reporter who’s been right alongside me for at least half the journey, will continue to dig into at these fascinating topics and provide her smart insights. Thank you for all your support and notes and comments over the years. Here’s to many more years of learning together!
