Dear Mr Carter Saw your interview on Meridian last night and was frankly appalled by your statement. The Supporters of Manston are fully aware of your real desire to turn Manston into a building site from the day the closure was announced. In various interviews and statements you expressed limited support begrudgingly, no doubt due to public opinion Now you think these people from the Discovery Park are your saviours due to their ridiculous overblown claims. Lets examine them: 1. We will create 4000 jobs. A. Pure hyperbole anyone can make a statement like this, with no way of disproving it, Riveroak on the other hand claim the sensible figure of 400 2. We will spend a billion pounds in the next twenty years at Manston A. Well in his TV interview Mr Musgrove said there was a chance this could begin in TWO YEARS IF there was no opposition, well Mr Carter, do you think there will be opposition ? The most ridiculous part of this statement was the billion pounds, considering now they will not start for two years that means in twenty years from now this company will have on average to spend 55 Million pounds each and every year to fulfil this promise. Incidentally I have Fairies at the bottom of my garden, do you Mr Carter ? 3. We need all this extra business and warehouse space in Thanet A. About 6 months ago a huge block on the far from full Discovery Park was demolished( what percentage of occupation would it be if the original owners had left completely) I did a survey of three large industrial estates including the hardly used Manston Business park and found many large and small units for rent. In fact the hangers on the Airport are up for rent and as far as I know have no takers. In short if there is lack of business sites, build it on your existing site. 4. Paul Barber, MD Discovery Park: Paul Barber added: “We have companies from all over the world come to us, but it’s not an easy place to get to. “They come in from places like Asia through Heathrow – the journey from Heathrow is not a pleasant one and we’ve actually lost people on route on a couple of occasions, though found them eventually! “What we are now saying to people is that you can fly to Amsterdam, and hop over to Manston and we will pick you up and five minutes later you can be having a coffee with us in Discovery Park House. You can do business from all over the world from Manston. If we are going to promote Kent as a world-wide location and don’t have an international airport, then you are at a disadvantage.” A. A RINGING ENDORSEMENT FOR MANSTON AS AN AIRPORT, thank you Mr Barbera Regards Gary Easton
