Dear Mr. President, This morning I awoke at 3:30 a.m. I - TopicsExpress

Dear Mr. President, This morning I awoke at 3:30 a.m. I couldn’t sleep. The thought of what this world has become, made my heart remember what it felt like when 9-11 happened, and my son decided that he would join the United States Marines. That was the day my life changed forever. You see, I no longer was a Republican, Democrat, or any one of the other parties that add their names when it’s time to vote. No, I was just the mother of a son who was willing to go and fight for the freedom of my country, while the politicians fought among themselves and continue to do so today. This morning I got up and waited for your speech. I was curious as to what you were going to say or how you were going to say it, and I have to write that my heart was disappointed when you walked up to the podium, flipped the page over and began reading. You read so quickly and seemed so disinterested in what you were reading that you lost me. Now, whether I voted for you or not, I’ve always believed in people. I believe that within the moments of adversity is when strength arrives, but I wonder if you really understand who you are talking to when you get up to the podium. Sometimes we can get so stressed within our job that we lose sight of the people we are actually working for and I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Gina Woods. I’m married. I’m the mother of three, grandmother of two, and while within the world I might only be a small part of this world, what matters is that you work for me and the millions of people who live within the United States of American. You see, it’s our sons and daughters; husbands and wives; fathers and mothers; family members or friends, who have fought, are fighting, or will one day fight, for the decisions that you and every other politician make, and when people fight about whether or not we should have been within a war… please remember that someone lost their child; husband/wife; father/mother; family member or friend, and when they hear… “We shouldn’t have been there in the first place!” You have no idea what that does to the heart of a parent; husband/wife; child; family member or friend. You see Mr. President. This morning I got a text message after your speech, from a Gold Star Mother who wrote, “Was Iraq worth the loss of my son’s life, and if another mother loses her child in Syria will it be worth it, because the President doesnt seem to feel his decision within his heart. Many people signed up to defend this country because they thought it was worth it, so please, when making decisions on wars and giving reference for wars past, please remember that there are all types of people in this world, but it takes a special person who will sign their name to the dotted line, knowing that it might just be their last signature. And, the most amazing part is they might question the motives of why they go to war, but they go anyway. To my Gold Star Mother… Was Iraq worth the loss of your son’s life? Yes. Your son was a hero. He was brave and went and fought for the freedom of those he “believed” in. It could have been a father he met along the road or the mother he helped across the street, or the children he gave school supplies to. (I remember you sharing his stories.) Not everything we do in life is for the multitudes. Sometimes God calls us to only serve one person, because to God… one person is enough. One person matters, and your son was one person I will never forget. To all the Gold Star Mothers whose children have defended my freedom and have lost their lives doing so, I pray that you know that their life was worth it, and no matter how many times people go back and forth talking about what we should have done, or what we’ve done… WE DID IT! THERE’S NO GOING back. We can only move ONWARD! And, I pray to God that my President and all those who work with him understand that when the country becomes divided, the people who hurt the most are the families who sacrificed their all, because money can be replaced when an economy falls, but a loved one’s heart never beats the same after losing the one they love! ONWARD TO MY KNEES AND CONTINUED PRAYERS FOR MY COUNTRY AND ALL THOSE WHO HAVE SERVED, ARE SERVING AND WILL ONE DAY SERVE!
