Dear Mrs Hammontree, If you find the following information interesting, please forward it to the other families in your homeschool group. Introduced at the 2013 homeschool show in Nashville, the Learn to Play series is especially formulated to help home school parents teach their own children how to play guitar, piano, violin/fiddle, and mandolin, EVEN IF THEY DON”T PLAY THEMSELVES. How is the Learn to Play series different? It’s easy to learn, easy to teach, and fun to play. And most importantly, there’s plenty of music included so that students are able to get very good at reading and playing music. In the guitar course, for example, there are over 28 songs to practice just on the first 3 notes. Then, 3 more notes are introduced with 23 more songs to practice. Then those 6 notes are combined with 108 more songs to practice! This method of teaching gives the student a chance to get really good at each new set of notes before going on. This “comfort level” assures that the student has fun learning and is motivated to continue—the secret to success. The Learn to Play series includes not only the music “basics” such as Lessons (manual), Technic (technical exercises), and Theory Workbook, but a good variety of matching supplemental books including Songs, Folk Songs, Children’s Songs, Animal Songs, Fiddlin’ Around (fiddle tunes), How High Can You Fly? (songs on the higher notes), and How Low Can You Go? (songs on the lower notes). The first level alone contains over 800 pages of music. Most students will be able to play 50-100 songs during the first couple of months and 800-1,000 songs during their first year. Each student can work at his/her own rate of speed. There is also an excellent Parent/Teacher Manual (for parents and/or music teachers) with step-by-step instructions and a comprehensive index. Another exciting feature of the Learn to Play series is that ALL the music matches throughout the series. This means that students who play guitar, piano, violin/fiddle, mandolin, or any other instrument can all play together! Not only can families play together on a regular basis, but homeschool groups can also schedule weekly or monthly “Group Sessions” to have fun playing and singing together. This is especially nice at Christmas. There is a beautiful 150-pg. book, Christmas Songs, which is easy enough for most 1st year students to play and sing together. To help students get started easily, Starter Paks were introduced at the Indianapolis homeschool show. Starter Pak #1 includes the first 7 books a student needs to get started along with a free Parent/Teacher Manual. It will keep most students busy for 4-6 months. There are 12 Starter Paks available for each instrument (7 books each) so the student will not run out of fun, interesting music to play for years to come. There are currently 3 complete levels available for Guitar, Piano, Violin/Fiddle, & Mandolin (approximately 100 books each). Currently in progress (with some titles available) are: Electric Bass, Cello, Flute, Harmonica, Recorder, Banjo, Ukulele, Baritone Ukulele, and Dulcimer. You can email us requesting information for any of these instruments and we will let you know what is currently available.
