Dear Munich Friends, you all know how much I love Bayer, but - TopicsExpress

Dear Munich Friends, you all know how much I love Bayer, but today (I am on holiday in Taiwan) it happened to me a emblematic fact. Maybe it is just based on series of unlucky events, but.... So five months ago the battery of my watch died, it is a particular watch that also has an embedded thermometer, altimeter, barometer, etc. I went to change it, and since it was just a battery, I went to the first shop I found. No way, I had to find, according to the salesperson a watch shop were they sell that brand. I went to a second one. No way, again same answer. I repeated another few times, afterwards I gave up. So I went to an official reseller of my watch brand...The first clerk I met asked me for 135 €...I thought I misunderstood, so I asked him to repeat it. and he repeated 135 €....I asked him why, and he said that it was a special watch, they had to recalibrate (I can recalibrate myself, because it is one of its features!), anyway he insisted. Than I asked him how long I should have waited for that, he told me 3 weeks...because they had to send it back to Switzerland....I left.... I went to another, and I asked for my battery, after 5 minutes I managed to convince the guy I didnt want to re-calibrate anything. So he told me that it was my own risk (clearly....), and he asked me for 25-30 € to change the battery....I asked him how long does it take, he said, this is a special watch, special battery, it can take up to 2 weeks, most likely 1...I tried the same with other official re-sellers, some amount of day, but I managed to find one who asked me 20€... Now I am in Taiwan, we went to the first watch shop we found, they didnt sell that brand. It was just a watch shop... My wife asked if he could have changed my battery, because you need some special screwdriver, and I couldnt do by myself, the guy said of course.... It took him about 2-3 minutes, and my watch was afterwards ready. I paid 2.5 €... Similar kind of things happened in other circumstances (but always in private sector), in Munich where I live the public services are more than excellent... But it is an unbelievable difference....I think that Germans in general tend to be too perfectionist. Which is what I want if you are designing the air-plane I am going to fly, but which could be exaggerate if it is just a watch. Taiwanese are very precise as well, the best worldwide chip maker is in Taiwan (TSMC) and to do this kind of chip you must be very precise!!! But at the same time they can be really pragmatic too....in the end it was just a battery...and not for the most important instrument on an Airbus.....
