Dear NAHJ LA members, The current board members’ terms are coming to a close, after two years of being in office. Our officers have produced mixers, workshops and a successful #LatinCon, a digital-focused conference hosted at the YouTube L.A. space. Now, we are pleased to announce open seats on the National Association of Hispanic Journalists Los Angeles chapter board. I encourage you to look at the roster of open seats and step into the NAHJ LA leadership. The criteria to run and serve in each position is summarized as follows: PRESIDENT: The president must be a regular member of NAHJ and a working journalist. He/she must have served at least one term on the Board of Directors (at NAHJ LA) in any capacity before serving as president. The president must remain a working journalist during his/her tenure.* VICE PRESIDENT OF PRINT: The vice president of print must be a regular member who works at a print publication. The vice president of print must remain a working journalist during his/her tenure.* VICE PRESIDENT OF BROADCAST: The vice president of broadcast must be a regular member who works at a broadcast news outlet. The vice president of broadcast must remain a working journalist during his/her tenure.* VICE PRESIDENT OF ONLINE: The vice president of online must be a regular member who works at an online publication, or as a news gatherer whose main role is that of an online journalist. This person may work in traditional print or broadcast media, but his/her job must be defined by the digital dissemination of news. The vice president of online must remain a working journalist during his/her tenure.* SPANISH-LANGUAGE AT-LARGE OFFICER: The Spanish-language at-large officer must be a regular member who works at Spanish-language media. The Spanish-at-large officer must remain a working journalist during his/her tenure.* ACADEMIC-AT-LARGE OFFICER: The academic at-large officer must be an academic member who works as a full-time instructor at a recognized and accredited institution of higher learning. The academic at-large officer must be an instructor in news gathering and dissemination. All regular members in good standing will vote in this election. The academic at-large officer must remain a working instructor during his/her tenure.* GENERAL AT-LARGE OFFICER: The general at-large officer must be a regular member and a working journalist. The general at-large officer must remain a working journalist during his/her tenure.* SECRETARY: The secretary must be a regular member and a working journalist. The secretary must remain a working journalist during his/her tenure.* FINANCIAL OFFICER: The financial officer must be a regular member and a working journalist. The financial officer must remain a working journalist during his/her tenure.* STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE: Candidates must student members in good standing and must have demonstrated an interested in journalism, including taking media-related courses or working for a student media outlet. The student representative must remain full-time student during his/her tenure.* *These candidates must submit their intent to run along with 25 signatures, or 5 percent of the membership, from regular (STUDENTS FOR THE STUDENT REP POSITION) members in good standing.
