Dear Nerds, Ahem, FELLOW nerds, I mean... I went down the rabbithole on this last night. I was reading James E. Wilsons Terroir recommended by Clarke Boehling a long time ago when I was really getting into wine, and in this little section on Bonnes-Mares he mentioned, an excellent Hugh Johnson TV special called Vintage... I thought that has to be on Youtube. Alas... Ever since reading Michael Pollans Botany of Desire some years ago, where he claims that the apple originated in its ancestral home of the mountains of Kazakhstan, and was spread by mammals outside of these hillsides and valleys... I began to wonder if there is a home for grapes as we know them. And finally have an answer, the lower slopes of the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia. Fascinating historical take here...
