Dear New Single Parent, Its true. Being a single parent is very hard. Sometimes you may feel like a complete failure and just want to give up. Other times you will be convinced that God has forgotten you and the universe is conspiring against. Then there are the super lonely times and the complete exhaustion. However, I have always refused to use it as a reason to get special treatment or an excuse to be a horrible, bitter person. Ive been a single parent for 15 years minus the 1 1/2 that Andrew spent with his father. Being a single parent is by far the HARDEST and MOST REWARDING thing I have ever done. Rule #1 Using being a single parent as an excuse is like saying you have some kind of disability. Its not a disability. Its an honor. Its a chance to teach your children strength and determination. So, Suck it up! AND never EVER use being a single parent as an excuse to be a horrible person. Youre making the rest of us look bad and thats not cool. Sincerely, A HAPPILY SINGLE PARENT
