Dear Northallerton Friends REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL - MONDAY 28 JULY LETS CELEBRATE - Hambleton Paddlers ( Canoe & Kayak Club ) Putting this RTBC in context - I spent part of Saturday with NYCC CYPS team + 50 children in care of NY at a Celebration Day where every young person had fun at Carlton Lodge Activity Centre - Nr Thirsk. It was a brilliant day with the team ( inc North Yorkshire Youth own dedicated staff ) supervising and encouraging the young people to sample - Archery - High Zip Wire - Climbing Wall + Rope Climb + Raft Building. Just to be clear the Activity Centre is ultra professional - all young people were provided with safety wear - hard hats etc - no child was in danger - however they all felt they experienced extreme adrenelin charged activities - thanks to all staff - cracking day. However the highlight for young people was the raft building on the lake - which brings to the fore - Hambleton Paddlers - grateful to the McKenzie family from Northallerton ( Derek + Judith + Alex ) for explaining that their club is now based at The Boathouse - Carlton Lodge and more than happy to work with young people to enjoy water sport experiences. The club caters for all abilities and age groups and has a number of disabled members that can be facilitated on the water. The club has up to date equipment thanks to a series of grants over the years. The clubs focus is about encouraging participation in the sport ( and recreation ) of kayaking and canoeing in a safe environment - to support this - the club has a number of well qualified & experienced instructors who oversee all activities. Check out their website - I can vouch for 50 looked after children who loved the experience which will stay with them for some time.
