Dear Ogg friends, Just back from some time off... Ive been thinking seriously about the future of this page, and about how to move forward. Last month, there was a problem.....a woman, whose name I dont care to mention, took a few of Coley Oggs photos and attached to them, her own.. disgusting racist captions. I wont dignify what she said by repeating it...... but it made me sick, and angry, frankly.....because Pa Oggs camera was color blind; he took photos of people from all walks of life, rich poor, white, black, red, and all shades in between. He was a humanitarian. My grandma made a point of telling me that he refused to stoop to taking racist pictures which had a market at that time. He made hundreds of thousands of photos for Berea College, the first interracial , coed institution of higher learning in the southern United States.. before the Civil War, and he believed firmly in the mission of Berea and supported it wholeheartedly with his lifes work. I dont want to close this page off to the public, but I am considering it. 99.9 percent of people are respectful, kind, and considerate....but, that small .1 percent, has caused me have to reconsider my policy of openly sharing Coley Oggs work. Some important original research is going on with this page, and I will not allow a few small minded individuals to use what we are doing for their own selfish, hateful ends. It took me several days to convince Facebook to remove the content, which was time consuming and draining. I dont want to go through that again. So, I am thinking about making a closed group.
