Dear Parents Boys’ Brigade Officers are worried that the proposed sale of the Mission Hall by Galston Parish Church may affect the future of the Company, which has served Galston for 34 years. Galston Parish Church has indicated that due to large maintenance costs they intend to sell the Mission Hall. A meeting of Church members on Sunday 5th October will decide if the sale is to go ahead. The Boys’ Brigade presently uses the Mission hall on 5 days of the week offering a varied programme to boys aged 6 right up to the age of 18 and has a vast quantity of equipment (sports & gymnastic equipment, table tennis, pool table, computers, games consoles, televisions, boots, rucksacks and tents. etc.) Although offered the small gymnasium at Loudoun Leisure Complex, this proved unsuitable when investigated (wall bars & rope hazard for Anchor Boys, wrong night for Junior Section , only one night and one area for Company section). Using this facility would result in the Company becoming a sports club with no more queen’s badges and Duke of Edinburgh Awards. In 34 years the Company has produced 70 Queen’s Men and 9 Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award holders. The Company hopes that members of the congregation will at this stage encourage the BB Staff and Congregational Board to enter discussions on how to resolve the problem to the satisfaction of both parties.
