Dear Parents/Guardians, On Sunday, February 2, the groundhogs - TopicsExpress

Dear Parents/Guardians, On Sunday, February 2, the groundhogs up and down the east coast saw their shadows so we should be prepared for at least six more weeks of winter. On a more serious note, this winter has already given us a new phrase to use, vortex, and it doesn’t seem to be abating any time soon, given the forecasts for tomorrow and this weekend. The decision to open or close school is a very difficult one, and many factors are considered; our most recent experiences from the last two snowstorms and days of near zero temperatures show that no matter what the call, some parents and staff will agree with the decision, some will not. Tomorrow morning is supposed to be challenging, and we may try something I’m told has never been done, or at least in recent history, in Jersey City – a delayed opening. Sunday may bring in a treacherous storm, and we may have to close, yet again. And we still won’t be in mid-February yet. Please be assured that no decision is made lightly, and we are guided by our commitment to the safety and well-being of all of our students and staff and to maximizing the learning time for our students.
