Dear Parents/Guardians, School Committee, and Colleagues: This week, May 5-9, 2014 is National Teacher Appreciation Week and right in the middle of the week is Wednesday, May 7th, National Teacher Appreciation Day! Once again, it is time to show our appreciation to our teachers, past and present for all that they do for our students. The teaching profession is one of energy, passion, and commitment. Those who teach, give of themselves selflessly, over and over: guiding, mentoring, supporting—educating. Our teaching profession is rooted in the past but invested in the future. The job of the teacher is both to ground and to inspire students to reach their full potential. Our Chelsea teachers are the BEST at doing this work. One of my favorite quotes from John F. Kennedy is the following: As we express our gratitude, we must never forget the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. —--Today, this week and every day, let us do both, utter the words of gratitude to our teachers, but also let us live by them by promoting in word and deed education and teaching in our country. Our country has and will continue to succeed because of our belief and investment in education; our belief and investment in teachers. We are also celebrating this week May 6- 12, National School Nurse Appreciation Week. In your travels, please express your gratitude and say a BIG thank you to our school nurses for the work they do for our students and families each and every day. Our nurses go well above their normal work, for example they collect mittens and winter coats for students in need during the winter, or food for families struggling to prepare a holiday dinner. Our nurses are a big part of the heart of our schools and we are grateful for their work, participation, and contributions, to our school community. We are so very grateful for all the members of our staff but this week we are doubly grateful for both our teachers and our school nurses! ~ Superintendent Dr. M. Bourque
