Dear Parents, I am writing to inform you about a new and exciting summer program, called ACES (Adler Camp for Enrichment Services). ACES is a program for children entering grades K-6. This is a program designed for children that need a structured setting, but would enjoy a fun-filled camp day outside on the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds. The groups in this program will be smaller in size (4-8 children) to provide as much individualized attention as possible. The ACES program will work with families to provide all necessary services (PT, OT, Speech, ABA, etc.). Focus will be on social skill development within a recreational program, and is ideal for children who are in an 8:1:1, 12:1:1 (or higher) special class setting during the school year. An intake is required prior to registration, which allows us to determine the skills that your child already possesses as well as those in need of strengthening and development. Some of the activities that campers will experience at camp include: swim (2 per day), arts and crafts, mini-golf, sports, dance, music, rock wall, zip line, bungee trampoline, and more! While the group itself will be an independent unit, I want to note that this is a shared camp experience, meaning that the children will be on the same campgrounds as neuro-typical Mid-Island Y JCC campers, and will have inclusion opportunities throughout the day, such as during specials, swim and at lunch. This is truly a wonderful opportunity for children who have never been to camp! It is a wonderful alternative (or addition) to summer school, and allows each child to enjoy a true camp-experience without sacrificing the structure and routine of a traditional school day. In addition to providing all necessary services, this program will also provide individualized academic support and behavior intervention when needed. It also includes a low ratio of children to staff. The cost for this program is $743.75/week for a non-member and $712.50/week for a JCC member. The cost includes daily lunch, central bus pick up, field trips, camp photo, backpack, towel service and support services. The summer camp runs from June 30-August 22. While this program is being marketed as a traditional full-day 8-week program, the program is highly customizable. If you only have an AM summer school program, or if you are only interested in using the program for a couple of weeks, let us know. We will work with you to tailor the program to meet the needs of your child and family. If you are interested in receiving more information about this new and exciting program, please do not hesitate to contact me or Brittany (x356) for more information. We look forward to hearing from you!
