Dear Pembroke School District Community Members, As mentioned - TopicsExpress

Dear Pembroke School District Community Members, As mentioned in this year’s Back-to-School Dragon Tales, our District needs to consider how to best balance meeting student needs and maintaining long-term financial stability. In 2010, New York State implemented what is known as the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA), which resulted in our District not receiving what the state aid formulas call for, ranging between $1.2 and $2 million each year. The state’s restoration of state aid to schools by eliminating the GEA would be the most significant way to ease the financial burden on local property tax payers and enhance offerings to students, but it is not a guarantee. That being the case, we need to engage in two important tasks: 1. We need to facilitate a District and community-wide process to obtain input regarding whether or not to close one of the elementary buildings, which will include: a. Gathering and compiling relevant information b. Scheduling and facilitating focus group meetings c. Completing the state-mandated 5-year Building Condition Survey d. Making a recommendation to the Board The first meeting is scheduled Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at Pembroke Jr./Sr. High School. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Mrs. Crandall at [email protected] or call (585) 599-4525, extension 1950. The room will be determined based on the number of anticipated participants. If you cannot attend this meeting, please rest assured that more meetings will be scheduled throughout the school year. 2. We need to unite our efforts and mobilize our community to advocate for proper school funding from the state. With that in mind, please save November 6, 2014 to attend a School and Business Summit at Batavia High School at 7:00 p.m. Here is a similar letter that went out to parents last week, which includes more details about the November 6th Summit: edline.net/files/_5PJ5h_/34e8695a0cc5e2b03745a49013852ec4/Oct_23_Meeting_Letter.pdf
