Dear Region XIIers: Join the members and friends of NAFSA Rainbow SIG & help the Forum on Education Abroad (FEA) provide opportunities for deserving undergraduates LGBTQI students to study abroad through the provision of scholarships. The members of the Rainbow Special Interest Group of the National Association of International Educators and the Fund for Education Abroad are proud to announce that the second annual Rainbow Day of Giving will take place on December 2nd, 2014. The Rainbow Day of Giving is the opportunity to support scholarships for deserving LGBTQI students who wish to participate in semester study abroad programs. 100% of the monies raised go to fund the scholarships. Because the LGBTQI community includes a diverse population of students who often face financial challenges that prevent them from studying abroad, the Rainbow Scholarship gives them this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Thanks to the generous individuals who participated in last year’s Rainbow Day of Giving, two students were able to study abroad in Kyoto, Japan and Prague, Czech Republic. Donate here on Tuesday, December 2, 2014: razoo/story/2014-Rainbow-Day-Of-Giving-December-2 Our goal this year is to support three students who wish to study abroad during the fall 2015 or spring 2016 semester, each with $5,000 scholarships totaling $15,000. The Rainbow SIG has raised over $8,500 so far, so we are well on our way. To encourage us to stretch and achieve the remaining $6,500 On Rainbow Giving Day, long-time Rainbow SIG member, Jan Kieling has offered to match the first $1,000 raised in support of a new scholarship opportunity, the Silver Lining Fund. This new award will broaden access to funding by allowing one award recipient to remain anonymous. We hope that in addition to fulfilling a need within the community, this new award with be a symbolic gesture of support. This year, lets change the lives of at least three students--possibly more-- by helping them study abroad. *** Please feel welcome to use the language above with colleagues, in social networks like Facebook, LinkedIn, and NAFSA forums, along with friends and family. *** George & Andy NAFSA Rainbow SIG Co-Chairs
