Dear Residents This info was received by one of our residents from a friend who lives in Randburg – as scams generally move faster than our Government can move against crime and corruption it is a good idea to warn your staff and family to be aware and take precautions. The incident happened on the 3rd July 2013 in Randburg. Hi there! Please send this to everyone you know! This might just prevent someone from getting hurt. This happened at our house in White Ridge yesterday, 3 July 2013. A young girl arrived at our gate asking the kids (who were playing in the yard) if she can come in as a guy in a BMW X5 is following her. The kids and our housekeeper, Martha, luckily phoned me and their dad. My husband told them to press the Chubb panic button. I phoned the neighbour to check in – she wasn’t at home and also suggested we phone Chubb first. I asked Chubb to send a patrol car as something didn’t feel right. When they told the “girl” about Chubb, she said her dad said he’s on his way and ran off. When the Chubb officer arrived, he said most of the housebreaking cases happens like this. So, a girl arrives at the gate asking for help because someone’s following her. As soon as she’s inside, she holds a knife against (usually) a child’s throat and forces someone to open the gate. The “stalker” then pulls in, they tie everyone up and steal what they want. Chubb said the best option is to immediately phone your security company or the police, but DON’T LET ANYONE INSIDE YOUR GATE. Looking back, so many things in her story doesn’t add up. She walked from Greymont with this guy following her. So, she walked past shops, a shopping centre, houses and decided on our house. Her accomplice was close-by in a beat-up blue bakkie (our neighbour’s housekeeper saw her get out of it and then into it again). When Martha asked her if they can phone her parents, she said her phone wasn’t with her. How did she know her dad was on his way if she didn’t have a phone to call him or know that he was on his way? She told them she’s 15, but looks 20. Thank goodness my kids and Martha phoned us first. Don’t want to think of what could have happened if she was let in. Just thankful that my family is safe! Please send this to everyone you know. Kind regards Nicolette
