Dear Residents of Birstall/Wanlip This is my first Christmas - TopicsExpress

Dear Residents of Birstall/Wanlip This is my first Christmas message with hopefully more to come, Ive never written a Christmas message before but wanted to thank everyone who has supported me since my election in February. I love Christmas not just because I get cracking gift from my wife but its a time I get to spend with my family. Its become a tradition for my Birstall family to meet in the Legion on Christmas Eve, we join in the games they put on, Ive never won but am hoping my luck will change. Later in the evening, depending on how sober different member of the family are, some of us head down to St James for midnight mass. It been a hard year for me personally, I have spent months in hospital trying to learn to walk again (due to a serious back injury), entering politics, knowing almost nothing about what really goes on, what rules and regulations I must follow and stepping on peoples toes of which there have been a few. But all with in the best interest of Birstall and its community. In my role as Cllr I often get complaints about local issues, but rather than seeing a complaint I see it as something different. I see people passionate about where they live and wanting to see Birstall protected and managed effectively. This year, whilst difficult, has also been a massive success. I got married to the most beautiful woman Kathryn Sansome (formally Kathryn Hunt) We had the service at St. Peters in Glenfield as her family are originally from that part of Leicestershire, with the wedding reception at Birstall Golf Club, which I cant recommend enough. I am delighted to say Ive never been happier, thanks to my new wife, marriage and fantastic opportunities. I wanted to stand for election to raise the political debate in the village and put forward local issues hoping to do some good. After residents spoke to me, I did a school petition for a primary school in Hallam Fields, I raised the issue of a Dog Park,Grit Bins, Post Office, Swimming Pool, Post Box, Waste and Dog Bins a School Crossing outside Riverside, Bus Shelters, while also dealing with case work and organising Birstall Car Boot Sale from a hospital bed. I know we are still awaiting decisions on some of the above mentioned, but I hope that I have contributed in getting the issues resolved or at least made the organisations involved sit up and listen. Next year is going to be another tough year with not only the general election but also local elections on the 7th May. This is expected to be one of the most important elections in a generation and to be honest I have no idea if I will be re-elected. I can only say that I never thought I could love Birstall more than I have this year, its been a pleasure being you’re Cllr and I would happily put in my heart and soul, as I have done this year, for the next 4 years. In the mean time I will leave you with your family and loved ones and I wish everyone in my constituency a very happy Christmas and a wonderful new year. Merry Christmas Cllr Simon Sansome
