Dear Residents of Chandigarh, I read your views regarding disturbed water supply to the residents of the Chandigarh since last 11 days which harassed the residents also. I also share their inconvenience and anguish with heavy heart. I would also like to share with you the water supply which is being supplied for the last 60 years and this is the first experience of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh as well as Chandigarh Administration that such type of disturbed water supply and inconvenience happened in the last 11 days. I would also like to clear the confusion regarding disturbed water supply in the city and nobody knows what are the reasons behind it? The Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh is supplying about 87 MGD water daily. 67 MGD water is receiving from Kajuali Water Works and about 20% is receiving from existing tubewells which is highest per capita per liter i.e. 255 liter in normal days. However, the national ratio of water supply which is being supplied in the other big cities are 110 liter per person which is less than half of Chandigarh. It is pertinent to mention here that according to Tripartite Agreement signed by Punjab, Haryana and UT Administration, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation is receiving 67 MGD Bhakhra Canal Water - Kajauli Water Works through 4 number of pipe line laid down to bring this water from Kajauli Water Works to Sector 39 Chandigarh Water Works. I would like to bring in the notice of the general public of Chandigarh that (i) The Kajauli Pumping Station which pumps water for Chandigarh is situated in Punjab. (ii) The said Pumping Station is overall under the control of Punjab Government for pumping repair and maintenance. (iii) The Municipal Corporation only pay annual bill for this work. (iv) The broken pipe lines are over all under the supervision of Punjab Government for repair, maintenance and security. (v) The Municipal Corporation only paid for it. (vi) The two pipe lines broken in Mankheri village which is also under the territory of Punjab. The Punjab Government is laying another pipe line in the area for Mohali and for laying these pipelines heavy machinery is being used and untrained labour is deployed for the said work for which the existing two pipelines for Chandigarh badly damaged. (vii) The rainy season further worsen the position and situation become more difficult to cope up the supply. The Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh is facing huge criticism and anguish from the residents of the city for the disturbed water supply which they have not responsible for 100%. I was surprised to know that two days back Mr. Sanjay Tandon, President of the local BJP along with some Councillors and Party Workers visited the spot where the said pipe line is damaged and released some photographs to the Press for just publicity and further issued a Press Statement knowing the facts that who is responsible but he blames Mayor and officials of the Corporation for just to take political mileage. I would like to request Mr. Sanjay Tandon please tell the residents of the Chandigarh that 1. The pipe line, Water Works and the area is under the Punjab Government or not? 2. If the damage is occurred due to fault of the Public Works Department of Punjab, is it not the duty of the Punjab Government to own the responsibility? 3. Which party is ruled in the Punjab? 4. Whether your party is partner in that Government or not? 5. Whether any minister of your party or partner party visited the spot and issued directions for early repair? 6. Will you demand to the Punjab Government for inquiry to fix the responsibility for these damages?
