Dear Rich, Take action to help reduce the sulfur dioxide - TopicsExpress

Dear Rich, Take action to help reduce the sulfur dioxide pollution from dangerous coal plants around the state. Take action! Send Your Letter This is a big deal. The EPA has determined that Wayne County has a pollution problem. The region has failed to meet federal standards for sulfur dioxide. This nasty pollutant is probably known best for its reaction to nitrogen oxide, creating acid rain. It also causes severe breathing problems for kids, seniors, and those that suffer from asthma or other respiratory problems. We need your help to protect the air. Take action to help reduce the sulfur dioxide pollution from dangerous coal plants around the state. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) will be addressing this problem. They will have to come up with a plan that outlines a solution and cleans up the region. At the same time that sulfur dioxide is out of control, however, they are issuing permits allowing some polluters to emit even higher levels. We need to stand up and ask for a plan that will sharply reduce air pollution in Wayne County. This will only take a minute and the impact is HUGE. Send a comment to the MDEQ and ask for a strong implementation plan in Wayne County. We need a strong voice because other places in Michigan are under scrutiny too. We could see more regions in the state become as dangerously polluted as Wayne County. DTE Energy contributes up to eighty-five percent of all sulfur dioxide pollution in Wayne County. We need to work on creating more clean energy so we can replace the dirty coal plants that help create problems for our local communities. Thank you for all you do to protect the environment in Michigan. Sincerely, Andrew Sarpolis Michigan Beyond Coal Campaign
