Dear Sir/Madam, Page 23 of your latest style magazine in the do’s and don’ts section exhorts your readers to “speed up along those winding roads...” Quite the opposite is desirable for both tourists and locals as the roads are narrow. Many walkers and motorists have died due to tourists driving at their “normal speed” in Cornish lanes which is inappropriate for the width of the road and many blind bends. Tourists should also consider that in the summer months in particular there may be a large tractor just around that bend which will survive a collision far better than a car and its occupants. The safe required procedure is as follows 1. Slow down to a speed you can cope with should you be confronted by an oncoming vehicle quite suddenly, I suggest 30mph max and mostly in narrow lanes no more than 20mph 2. There are always passing places in Cornish lanes, it’s expected that everyone makes a mental note of the last one that they passed so should they meet an oncoming vehicle the drivers will know who is closer for reversing purposes. 3. Make sure you know how to reverse your car easily, so many people seem to think this is beyond them... 4. Your car is not as wide as you think it is. 5. Always thank someone with a friendly wave for stopping to allow you to pass, it’s common courtesy down here. We should all be grateful if you could redress your comments with the above in the next Style magazine. Many thanks Steve Miller
