Dear Sir/Madam, TIES Center cordially invites you to the following events next week: 1- A lecture entitled, How to spot a liar, by Tony Braun on Monday November 25 at 7:00pm. Do you hate being lied to? How do you know when someone is lying? Tony will be presenting the latest information based on the field of psychology, which will give you a foundational understanding on how to identify when a person is lying. There are many signs that make it easy to spot a liar, such as body posture, eye movements, speech patterns, ect.. After this detailed presentation, you will be able to detect lies like a pro. Please join us on November 25th at 7:00 to learn more. 2- A lecture entitled, Outbreak: Plagues that changed History, by Bryn Barnard on Tuesday November 26, 2013 at 7:00pm. The presentation will focus on how modern society has been shaped by infectious diseases including bubonic plague, smallpox, yellow fever, influenza, cholera, tuberculosis and toxoplasma. Bryns talk isn’t so much about the diseases, though he will describe them, but how they changed the way we treat illness, improve sanitation, provide drinking water and invented antibiotics. Like” The Genius of Islam”, this is the subject of one of his books, titled “Outbreak.” Bryn Barnard is an author and illustrator with twenty five years experience creating images for clients that include NASA, National Geographic and Scientific American. He has illustrated twenty-five books for children and is the author and illustrator of three books, all published by Random House, New York: Dangerous Planet: Natural Disasters That Changed History, Outbreak: Plagues That Changed History, and The Genius of Islam. Bryn Barnard has had solo exhibitions of his illustrations in Asia, Europe and the United States. In 2009 the Global Health Odyssey Museum at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia exhibited the art from his book Outbreak. The National Museum of Health and Medicine in Washington, DC showed Outbreak in 2010 and will do so again in the spring of 2013 at their new campus in Annapolis, Maryland. Bryn Barnard teaches art at the American International School of Kuwait. If you are interested in the topic, TIES Center is the most appropriate place to visit on Tuesday November 26, 2013 at 7:00pm. 3- Healthy Food Cooking Classes by By Karin Andersson. This is a 6-hour course that will begin on November 27, 203 at 6:30pm. Come along and get some inspiration to healthy cooking! In Karin’s demonstration classes, she will prepare the menu while trainees will be watching. Attendees will be provided with step-by step procedures, tasting the food and recipes. Learn how to turn simple nutritious ingredients into a flavorful healthy dish. This relaxed format ncourages informative discussions to help you prepare the dishes with confidence at home. Karin Andersson is a Certified Nutrition Adviser and nurse. She has worked in the field of nutrition and health for a long period of time in Sweden and in Kuwait. For her, it is extremely important to inspire and help people to achieve better health where diet plays a vital role. She is convinced that with the knowledge of how to prepare the food in a tasty and healthy way, combined with physical exercise, we can lead a happy, healthy life. According to her, food must taste good and be healthy at the same time. This passion for food and health that she has is expressed in her book “Food to enjoy & remember”.
