Dear Sony Pictures: That $45 million is gone. The $10 million - TopicsExpress

Dear Sony Pictures: That $45 million is gone. The $10 million you spent on advertising this season -- that money is gone, too. With no theaters to show your movie at, you cannot recoup the cost of this film. This is the state of things at this time. It cannot be undone. This is not unreasonable. Exhibitors weighed the risks of showing them film, and opted not to take those risks. That is understandable. Unfortunate, but understandable. But you can still beat the hackers. The hackers didnt want to cause you monetary harm. That was collateral damage. The hackers wanted to block the release of your film The Interview. They cannot be allowed this victory. They cannot be allowed to silence this film. If you distribute this film for free over the Internet, it will become the most talked-about film of 2014. Perhaps of the 21st Century so far. It will be amazing publicity for the films stars, and a PR win in the wake of a disaster not worth mentioning. The hackers will learn that we care about freedom of expression more than we care about money. They will learn that they cannot intimidate us into submission to their will. They will learn that if they threaten us to prevent us from doing something, we will do it more, and worse, and harder than they could ever have imagined. And they will be powerless to stop it. You can still win, Sony. And we all want you to. Sincerely, A Concerned Moviegoer
