Dear Stephen Harper, This is an open letter regarding the television advertisements that depict the tar sands as environmentally friendly (an outright lie) - and the $16 million spent on keeping such adds on the air this year. "In Fort Chipewyan, Aboriginal people have reported large increases in cancer rates since the production of the tar sands upstream from their home has been increasing. Additionally, the fish have become sick and inedible, and their environment has slowly become polluted to the point that many residents will no longer drink the water. The regulations of what can be put into the Athabasca from the tar sands extraction sites are far too high. The health and well-being of these people is being sacrificed for economic gain." - tarsandswatch.org/aboriginal-rights It is my understanding that the Conservative Party of Canada - Parti conservateur du Canada makes the economy their top priority, but there is so much more money to be made, and a more glorious legacy to lead your country to than such petty, short-term investments. I implore you start investing my tax dollars on energy solutions that will create a healthy, beautiful, and enriched future for Canada - not pulling the wool over our eyes while our neighbors, our fellow citizens of this great country, are being sacrificed. This is not just an aboriginal issue, this is a human issue. I will be Idle No More, I will do whatever I can to make this world a better place - however small my contribution may be. Sincerely, -Clara Shandler Concerned Citizen of Canada
