Dear Students, For the past few months, the Texas A&M University - TopicsExpress

Dear Students, For the past few months, the Texas A&M University System has worked with the Academic Health Plans (AHP) to implement changes to the System Student Health Insurance Plan (SSHIP). We thank you for your patience during the implementation. We recognize that the changes to the Texas A&M University System student health insurance regulations and the new processes have caused confusion. In order to address the concerns, ISS requested the deadline for submitting alternative health insurance coverage be extended to September 7, 2013. This email is an attempt to consolidate many of the answers related to the new health insurance processes for submitting alternative health insurance coverage (known as the waiver process) and the graduate assistantship coverage. The following is a list of categories and processes that may or may not apply to you. If you find yourself in one of these categories, please read and follow any instructions to address your issues. If you are not in one of these categories and you find that you may have other issues or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us as [email protected] for additional assistance. To determine if you meet the waiver requirements please view the information at the following link iss.tamu.edu/insurance/insurance.asp . If you are a new or current student and will not apply for a waiver or do not meet the waiver criteria • The health insurance fee has been charged to your tuition and fee statement. The health insurance card will be mailed to your student mailing address. If you are a sponsored student or are enrolled in an employer provided health insurance plan • If you have already requested a waiver from SSHIP through the AHP system, then please be aware that the requests are being reviewed by AHP. You will receive an email once the waiver request is approved or denied. • If the request is denied, AHP will explain why. You will be charged for SSHIP on your tuition and fee statement. • Please remember that if you have an employer provided plan that meets the minimum requirements it must include medical evacuation and repatriation. • If you have not yet requested a waiver you should go to the following link https://www2.academichealthplans/school/207.html no later than September 7, 2013, and follow these instructions 1. Have insurance card and school ID available. 2. Enter your UIN as the Student ID information 3. Enter your birth date as the Password format MMDDYYYY (Example:01011990) 4. Under the Enrollment column, click International Waive/Enroll Online 5. Select the waiver form under Submit Waivers. 6. Complete the waiver form and send your insurance information to waiver@ahpcare If you have a Graduate Assistantship • If you are a returning student on a continuing graduate assistantship and did not have a break in health insurance coverage, you will have the graduate student employee plan through AHP. • If you are a new student with a graduate assistantship and purchased the gap coverage for the month of August, but are showing a charge for the SSHIP on your tuition and fee statement, you should be receiving a refund of the $639 if you have enrolled (or will enroll by September 7, 2013) in the employer-plan through iBenefits to begin September 1, 2013. • If you are on a new graduate assistantship with a start date of September 1, 2013, and you have chosen to begin your health insurance on September 1, 2013, you did not purchase the gap coverage for August and you are being charged for the SSHIP on your tuition and fee statement, ISS is working the Texas A&M University System to identify who you are and process a refund for you. Once the refund is processed, your account will be credited $639, and then a charge of $106.42 will be placed on your account to ensure that you have coverage for the month of August. • If your assistantship starts September 1, 2013, or a later date, and you chose for your benefits to begin after the 90 day employer provided coverage (for example December 1, 2013), you will be charged the $639 for the SSHIP. You will receive instructions later in the semester about how to apply for a refund once your employer coverage begins. In most cases, the refund could be one month’s worth of premium, $106.42. If you are a dependent of a Texas A&M University Employee • If you are a dependent of a TAMU employee who has enrolled you in the TAMU employer provided coverage, you will need to request a waiver through the AHP system. International Student Services, the Texas A&M University System, and AHP would like to thank you for your continued patience as we work through these issues. If you have any further questions or concerns please contact your Human Resource Office, the A&M System Benefits Office ([email protected]), the Academic Health Plans Office judith@ahpcare , or the International Student Services Office [email protected]. Sincerely, International Student Services
