Dear Supervisor Mecham, Let me be frank, your recent Viewpoint - TopicsExpress

Dear Supervisor Mecham, Let me be frank, your recent Viewpoint in the Tribune, so concerned about water, ironically comes just one day after you approved a permit for McDonalds without fixing the water mitigation calculations that were clearly (agreed by each member of the BOS) askew. The water mitigation offset, as approved, was applied to a high floor AND a low ceiling -- making for LESS THAN 1:1. No development in Los Osos has been allowed this blatant favoritism since the basin was declared Level Severity III nearly 10 years ago. On my first day in office (Dec.16, 2004). the first motion I ever made as an elected official was to have the LOCSD request the County to deem our basin LOS III (the motion passed 5-0; nearly the only unanimous vote that contentious board ever had, as you may know, 3 members were recalled just 9 mos. later). Frankly, the difference in our basin and yours; our wells dont go dry and recharge when it rains. Our wells suck ocean water -- no amount of rain will repair our aquifer. The McDonalds approval, including the pass on water consumption, puts land use planning for Los Osos back in the dark ages. Next time youre in Los Osos and I invite you to enjoy that drive though, but please skip using the bathroom, and when you pick up your value meal -- do your part -- tell them to keep the drink...maybe that will offset your personal draw on our basin -- perhaps staving off seawater intrusion just one more day before it hits the tipping point that spoils the basin throughout. Thanks for nothing. Shame on you all. Julie Tacker
