Dear Toots, Sometimes our human flushes the toilet while we’re watching our favorite programs. When she does, the TV goes off. We’re desperate, it always happens right at the best part of the show or we miss the end of our story. What’s going on? Dear Darla & Carla, Well ladies, there appear to be several things going on! The biggest problem I see is that is that your human should never use the bathroom while you’re watching your favorite TV show! She should be setting attentively at your side. Remember that it won’t hurt her to wait a few minutes until there is a commercial. Here are a couple of tips that you might find helpful: I sometimes lay across The Lady’s lap until her legs fall asleep. This is pretty effective when you’re in the mood for a long quiet evening. I can see from your photo that with your svelte builds, this might not be possible for you (BTW- Nice bows!). Some dogs use the old ‘scratch my belly’ routine, but you just don’t strike me as those type of girls either. I recommend that you try crying every time your human acts like she wants to get up. If you can squeeze out a tear or two, it will speed up the training process. When she finally learns (usually after only a week or two of repetition), it might be enough to just wrinkle your brow and squint your eyes pitifully.
