Dear USA, As we share a common language, English but that - TopicsExpress

Dear USA, As we share a common language, English but that language originated in the UK we understand the correct pronunciation of it. We understand that over the centuries you have altered some of the spellings by taking out perfectly good letters such as U from colour and replacing perfectly good s with z. Fair enough as you feel you should spell the words how they sound. BUT please remember just because long ago we decided to put a few extra letters in words it was not done with the intention of confusing you. Sometimes we think they just look pretty that way and sometimes these extra letters should not really be pronounced within the word. Please understand that we shoved the letter H into the word vehicle without ever having the intention of actually pronouncing it while the word is spoken. I know it is a silly thing but please try saying the word vehicle without using the letter H as its doing my feckin head in :P
