Dear University Of MiamiParking and Transportation – Like - TopicsExpress

Dear University Of MiamiParking and Transportation – Like Oscar Wilde in a prison cell, I write you this letter. I’ll begin it with an obligatory, positive disclaimer - “I love this school. I’ve had so much fun. It’s been wonderful.” I do love you. That’s true. But I cannot graduate here without genuinely expressing my feelings about the terrible, terrible, terrible tragedy that you call a parking system. You’ve asked me to pay 500 dollars a year to park in a designated zone that is pretty far away from half of my classes and is often closed off for various Latin award ceremonies. I so badly want to be happy for the people winning awards, but you make me hate them because they stole the parking spot that I paid a ridiculous amount of money for. I don’t want to hate the Latin award winners. That’s not me. That doesn’t feel good. Most of the time, I can suppress and compartmentalize my anger towards this injustice. I just park, walk, and keep my mouth shut. BUT SOMETIMES I HAVE SHIN SPLINTS OR IT’S RAINING OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON TIME TO CLASS HAD I NOT HAD TO WALK ACROSS CAMPUS. And on these days, I am filled to the brim with a particular brand of anger that makes me want to strangle something innocent. I write this letter because, ideally, you will change your ways. Make the passes less expensive. If that’s not going to happen, at least tell me why they have to be close to 500 DOLLARS. I just want an answer. I’m tearing up right now, as I write this because, UM, we are friends and I don’t like conflict. Just answer me. Even if it means you put me in my place and tell me “we have to make the passes that expensive because [insert really good, irrefutable reason.] Fine. I would bite my tongue, if I knew why. So, at the very least, tell me WHY. With love (really) – Mona Pirnot
