Dear #VA, Today I wished my very own in-house hero (aka my hubby of almost 15 years and childhood sweetheart since 16) a Happy Veterans Day. A man who served two tours of duty in Iraq over 27 months and CHOSE to enlist as an Infantryman following 9-11-01 (though his ASVAB scores were so high he could have chosen any MOS but wanted to be on the front lines where he could do the most good for his country). A man who I fell in love with because of his backbone and ethics and sense of duty. A man who has given more than most who havent served can imagine because of that level of commitment to his country and its citizens. I wished him Happy Veterans Day... this man I adore... and he answered Im not so sure whats good about it. That is on you. Thanks for that. Thanks for the fact that we - along with hundreds of thousands of other heroes and families - will spend Veterans Day today not knowing what to expect tomorrow or next week or next month from the very organization we should be able to trust the most with the care of our heroes. I honestly have little need to see videos, time spent on news outlets, pretty photos and graphics, empty words, politics, and fanfare. What we need is actual service and actual respect shown to those who should be shown far more than lip service this Veterans Day and every day from the #NewVA.
