Dear Vegans at the LBC, As human beings choosing a specific dietary lifestyle, I commend you. I know vegans get a lot of flack for their food choices, and honestly, I could not care less what you personally choose to eat. If we were friends, I would make sure that you would be able to eat at wherever we chose to. I cannot, however, understand why vegans find it so necessary to try to publically convert people to that lifestyle. Do not try to tell me a vegan lifestyle is cheaper. Ive worked at a grocery store. Ive seen the cost of a vegan diet and Ive seen the cost of a meat-eating diet. Vegan food is consistently higher priced, especially for the prepackaged food that I, as a college student, would regularly eat considering I dont often have a lot of time to prepare an entire meal. Not only are the groceries more expensive, for a lot of people, especially living in New Orleans food deserts, finding a store that consistently carries fresh produce and other vegan goods is incredibly hard, if not impossible, for people who rely on public transit. So, while I support your choices, it is not your right to tell anyone how they should be eating when the studies you present are clearly biased and do not take into account the intersections of location, socioeconomic standing, occupation, etc. If you want to be a vegan, by all means, you do you. But Im sick and tired of hearing that Im doing something wrong by eating meat.
