Dear White People: I understand that you meant well, but really, if you want the ally ribbon, you need to get over White Fragility and other colonialist/imperialist demands on the labor of POC to ease your feelings of discomfort. Your sense of shame when faced with realization that you were lacking context or framing isnt the fault of how the information was presented to you. Its based on the ways in which the system has rewarded your default lack of awareness. Dont try to turn it back and respond with The Tone Argument and claims that MLK wouldnt have done it this way. Dont work on trying to improve the message being presented to you, to try to take control of the situation to ease your sense of having failed. If youre someone whos confident in your support of social justice, why are you needing reassurance each time we talk about race? Signed, Exhausted with dealing with this all.
