Dear Wonderful IIT Boeing Scholars (and their friends)! Just a friendly reminder that the IIT Boeing Scholars Academy is partnering with iitAIAS (IIT American Institute of Architecture Students) to offer a design charrette - Ramping Up Crown - to design a wheelchair accessible ramp for historic S.R. Crown Hall. This national historic landmark was created by world renowned architect and former IIT College of Architecture dean, Mies van der Rohe. Students will learn about accessibility and universal design as fundamental components of the architectural design process, and will be led by architecture faculty members and upperclassmen who will mentor and facilitate the event. This charrette will include a comprehensive lecture, studio, and design-build components. Students do NOT need previous architecture experience to participate. Instructors and volunteers will provide students with materials/tools, and will assist with cutting and other tasks.
