This is a sequence of Kryas,Pranayamas and Bandhas. Sukshma Vyayamaa is an ancient component of yoga not known to most of the schools of yoga today in the world. This was developed, designed and propagated originally by his Holiness Maharishi Karthikeyaji Maharaj of the Himalaya. The benefits of Yogic Sukshma Vyayamaa are so great that even without practicing the rest of the aspects of Hatha Yoga such as Asanas it is possible to derive extremely tangible benefits in a very quick manner. The other beautiful and more important aspect of Yogic Sukshma Vyayamaa is, that it is the only system of exercises in the world where each and every part of the body including each organ, each joint and each muscle is taken into consideration, and a particular exercise or set of exercises associated with a specific type of breathing in a specific type of position with a specific point of mental concentration is prescribed. The sequence of Sukshma Vyayamaa will be followed by a Nidra yoga session. Yoga nidra is one of the practices of pratyahara where the awareness is internalized. Literally, yoga nidra means psychic sleep i.e. sleep with full awareness. In the practice of yoga nidra the body sleeps but the mind remains awake listening to the instructions. In psychology, the state achieved in yoga nidra is termed the hypnogogic state, a state between sleep and wakefulness. Nidra Yoga prevents stress and stress-related disorders by inducing deep physical, emotional and mental relaxation, by training the mind to remain calm and quiet and by rooting out the repressed desires and thoughts from the deeper realms of the mind. As a promotive science, yoga nidra awakens the inherent creativity and promotes the learning and memory abilities of the practitioner. The second part of the workshop will include Sivanada asana practice. A typical Sivananda Yoga class involves 12 basic postures that seek to increase strength, flexibility, proper breathing, and ease in meditation. The 12-posture sequence is also called the Rishikesh series as it originates in that region in the foothills of the Himalayas. The objective of the class is to increase the awareness on the chakras in order to achieve a meditative state during the asana practice and to instruct students in the correct practice of yoga asana, enabling the student to deepen their daily practice and to experience moments of great inner peace. This is where I find that the magic of yoga begins to shine. From a place of inner peace we can begin to hear our own spiritual voice, our own guide within, bringing to light the dreams and desires that will truly be inspiring and leading us to a harmonious life. We will conclude the workshop with a Nidra Yoga Session. The concept of Yoga nidra is very ancient in Indian traditions such as Hinduism and Buddhism.Krishna is often associated with Yoga nidra in epic Mahabharata. Similarly, many yogis and rishis are supposed to have experienced Yoga nidra throughout their life. In modern times, Yoga nidra was experienced by Swami Satyananda Saraswati when he was living with his guru Swami Sivananda in Rishikesh. He began studying the tantric scriptures and, after practice, constructed a system of relaxation, which he began popularizing in the mid 20th century.He explained yoga nidra as a state of mind between wakefulness and sleep that opened deep phases of the mind.
