Dear Zane, Im 20 yrs old. I have a 4 day old daughter named Jurnee . My daughters father told me that hes taking the baby next week to NYC to visit his dying grandma. I already told him that I dont agree and I aint letting him take her over there. We live in GA, by the way. I dont feel like Im wrong for saying no. Shes too young and I dont think that its safe for a baby to travel. He still plans on taking her even though Ive explained to him why its not in our daughters best interest to take her. He wants to make this a debate so I plan on going to court and tell the courts that I want full custody just in case he tries to take her, Ill be 2 steps ahead. What else should I do about this? MY RESPONSE: The baby is too young to travel from Georgia to NYC in the first place. I can understand him wanting his grandmother to see the child but that needs to be done through pictures. She would probably agree that it makes no sense to risk the babys health like that. No matter what the means of transportation, the germs will be major and even in a car, that is a long journey for a child that young in a car seat. I am not sure if you can get full custody that fast but you need to ask the doctor to give his or her opinion about such a trip. I could be wrong but I know people who had to wait for a hot-minute to travel even back home after they had a child someplace else for similar reasons.
