Dear all participants in Rowayats Second Fiction - TopicsExpress

Dear all participants in Rowayats Second Fiction Competition, We hope you are well. Firstly, let us thank you for holding on until we were able to go through all your submissions, sort, verify submission fee, and get your missing details. We had a panel of judges (writing professors, teachers, award winning published authors), score, deliberate, and give their own results, which The Rowayat Team compiled. This process was lengthy since it involved considering the various views of the judges and we had 72 entries from Egyptian students from Cairo, Alexandria, Mansoura, Minia, Dubai, Doha, and the UK, as well as foreigners residing in Egypt. There was a total of 35 university submissions and 37 school submissions, our youngest participant was 10 years old, up to graduate level students. We applaud you all for your commitment to writing as a creative endeavor, you are all artists and worthy of recognition. The Rowayat Team would like to share with all of you words from one of our judges: I have to say that a mere number doesnt begin to convey the impact these words have had on me, and in several cases, I was deeply moved and affected by the depth and scope of the subject matter ... life, death, war, love, hate, global injustice, and the role of women, to name a few. Above all, it was an exploration of the emotions, fears, and questions we all share regardless of our race, creed or color. To find such maturity and depth spilled out page after page astonished me, and I found myself connecting with kindred souls. It doesnt matter that I dont know these young men and women, what mattered were the messages spoken through so many voices. Some words were so similar to my own it almost frightened me. After all, how could people I have never met echo my own thoughts? And I realize that to be a writer, to expose your soul to the world, unites us with the same voice. I would like to convey to these young writers, if at all possible, that never, ever should they surrender their dream. Words have such power, and if their thoughts and ambitions follow this power, what can be achieved will be truly a wonder to behold. Two overall winners (one university student and one school student) will be published in the Second Issue of Rowayat and four runner ups for university submissions and four runner ups for school submissions, which will be published on the Rowayat website on June 30th.
