Dear colleagues, Climate change effects have already arrived - TopicsExpress

Dear colleagues, Climate change effects have already arrived here in Kampala, a week after I shared the climate change impact news on this platform. If you are not having the flue or cough already due to the extensive dust in your town around Uganda - prepare yourself for serious water shortage over the coming weeks or months - the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has just announced that it will be undertaking water rationing for Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono as well as surrounding areas - our public utilities need to be more proactive and climate smart; NWSC should for example have prepared alternative means to deliver water even when water levels in Lake Victoria fall and this over the long-term is likely to be more regular; but while we can take a long term to transform NWSC there are some basic actions that are within the reach of each of us; i) Take shorter showers (but you have to bathe in any case...jokes) ii) Recycle your water; e.g. water you have used for washing clothes can be used to clean the house. iii) Only water your plants very early morning or late evening when it is least hot. iv) Ensure you have no leaking facets (taps) - a leaking tap can waste upto - An average household leaks can account for more than 3500 litres of water wasted every year, or the amount of water needed to wash 270 loads of laundry. v) If you have not done so already, invest in a large back-up water storage tank - it may not help this time as we are already in a water scarcity situation, but for the foreseable future you will be glad you did... vi) The key is to use each litre of water, longer and for its most effective use. Share more ideas on how we can conserve more water in our homes.. https://youtube/watch?v=yjNqWRV49JM
