Dear community leaders, social workers, business persons and friends, It is my pleasure to inform you that Nepalese Australian Association (NAA) is organising a Recognition Program in conjunction with the Consulate General for NSW, Guthi Australia, Gurkha Nepalese Community (GNC) and NRNA Australia to recognise the achievements of Ms Susmita Maskey in mountaineering and Mr Shyam Thapa in sports (football). On behalf of all organisers I would like to kindly invite you in this Recognition Program. Ms Susmita Maskey: Ms Maskey has scaled Mt Everest three times, Mt Ama Dablam (Nepal), Mr Elbrus (Russia), Mt Kilimanjaro (Tanzania) and Mt Kosciuszko (Australia) in her ten years career in mountaineering. She was the Team Leader and Expedition Coordinator of the most successful expedition of ten Nepali women to scale Mt Everest in 2008. She also took the torch to Mt Ama Dablam to celebrate Nepal Tourism Year 2011 in 2011. She is a motivational speaker and a brand ambassador for Childreach Nepal and Childreach International in 2010. She was a Youth Ambassador for Peace in 2008. She has received Nawadevi Award in 2008. Mr Shyam Thapa: Mr Thapa was born in Dehradun, India and educated in Gurkha Military School in Dehradun. He played for Gurkha Military School, East Bengal, Mafat Lal and Mohun Bagan clubs in 70’s and 80’s. Mr Thapa was a great and the most popular football player in 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s in India. He played against Cosmos team from Mohun Bagan in 1977. A world known charismatic and talent player, king of the football Pele played for the Cosmos. Mr Thapa scored a goal against the Cosmos, which made him the most popular football player in India. The match ended with 2-2 draw. In 60’s and 70’s football was not very popular in Nepal. Only few teams such as Thamel 11, RCT, NRT, Sankata and few others were present, which were mainly concentrated in the Kathmandu valley. He was a Head Coach of Nepal National Football team from 2004 to 2008. He was also a Technical Director of Youth Development program of AFC in Nepal. During his tenure Nepal Youth team reached quarter final in the AFC Challenge Cup in 2006.
