Dear community partner, The MacMurray College Social Work Program - TopicsExpress

Dear community partner, The MacMurray College Social Work Program created a community garden last summer of 2012. We have continued this wonderful activity this summer with student assistance; however, we are now endeavoring to make it more based in the larger community, not just the Mac community. The benefits of gardening have been shown to improve mental health, create stronger bonds between families, and increase understanding of nurturing and caring for the gifts of creation. We have constructed 4 raised beds. Our intention is that our local nonprofit partners become “members” of the community garden, and the raised beds become a way for clients and/or staff of your agency to participate in gardening activity as the raised bed(s) would be dedicated solely to your agency. There would be no cost of membership in the first year, but we are hoping that membership would have minimal cost in the future, and programs can integrate the cost of membership, soil, seeds and supplies into future grant writing. The raised beds could be decorated how participants see fit, and put the name of the agency on the side, or a small banner. If you are interested in participating, or would like to discuss possibilities for partnership further, please give me a call at 217-479-7108, or email me at: [email protected] . Sincerely, Dr. Joe Squillace Director, MacMurray Social Work Program
