Dear epilepsy team, I started having seizures December 23, 2012. Well, lets just give a big thanks to God that Ive only had two Grand Mal seizures. Okay, when I started having them it was 5 months after my 13th birthday. Im going to be 15 in a few days now. I thank God every day I dont have a tumor! We called my neurologist after my first seizure and I couldnt get an appointment until almost 2 months after my first seizure! I started having jerking spells in between that time, well I ended up having another grand mal February 6, 2013. I finally got to the neurologist and they put me on trileptal. It stopped all of my grand mal. Well I continued to have jerking spells, my doctor said it was my brain not waking up all the way, well a year later we finally caught one on video just last week. I would, from time to time, have spells where I just looked into space. The jerking ended up being mini seizures, that crushed me because in February we had celebrated my one year seizure free. Well, theyre putting me on depakote now to try and stop them. What hurts me the most is just knowing Ive been having seizures all along, not knowing. I have been getting sick lately, and were hoping and praying it doesnt lead into another seizure. But Im like totally ecstatic because I just finished drivers ed, and my neurologist had allowed me to still be able to go and get my permit, see I wont let it hold me back for anything! Anyways they diagnosed me finally with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy. But honestly, I dont even let it get me down. Im still a fun teenager that wont let any trials and tribulations keep me down, and all I can say is God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers! And Im praying that one day I can get off my medicine and officially say Im seizure free for good! Much thanks. Franny Acreman :-)
