Dear fellow whale watchers - It has been a busy week with daily sightings of whales at Logans Beach (including 2 cow:calf pairs) plus a number of other sightings around the region. The second calf at Logans Beach appeared on Tuesday and has been here every day since. Today I am aware of at least 10 srw in the area between Warrnambool and Portland. Below a summary of validated sightings for week ending 21 June. 15 June 2 x srw Logans Beach (cow:calf pair) 16 June 2 x srw Port Campbell (cow:calf pair) 16 June 2 x srw Logans Beach (cow:calf pair) 17 June 2 x srw Logans Beach (cow:calf pair) 18 June 2 x srw Portland 18 June 4 x srw Logans Beach (2 x cow:calf pairs) 18 June 2 x hbw Cape Liptrap (cow:calf pair) 19 June 4 x srw Logans Beach (2 x cow:calf pairs) 19 June 1 x hbw Port Fairy 20 June 5 x srw Logans Beach (incl 2 x cow:calf pairs) 20 June 1 x srw Port Fairy 21 June 2 x srw Port Fairy 21 June 3 x srw Narrawong 21 June 4 x srw Logans Beach (2 x cow:calf pairs) On Sunday 15 June I also received an unconfirmed report of a whale with a calf being attacked by sharks near Apollo Bay. I have not been able to verify this report as I have not been able to find anyone who witnessed this incident. I would therefore love to hear from anyone who might have further information.
