Dear friend and fellow creator, I really get it, and Ive - TopicsExpress

Dear friend and fellow creator, I really get it, and Ive thought about it too - lots of times. The fact that Facebook is showing our posts to such a limited amount of the people that weve worked so hard to win over with our music and art is, to say say the least, frustrating. Not to be able to reach those few thousand people that discovered you on a blog somewhere, or came to that long tour you did, is not fair to you or them. Its not fair to that person who wants to be able to promote your next tour either. So of course it makes sense to promote the posts in order to make sure that people know, so they can come see you, or buy your upcoming record or art. But bear in mind that this tactic only has one purpose - to squeeze those extra dollars out of you, with the promise of reaching your fans, that youve worked hard to gain. And thats what it is - Forcing you into becoming an advertiser. This is dividing the whole sphere of social media into groups of A and B. Only those with healthy financials will be able to reach their audience. If you put enough money into the slot, well turn up your mic louder than his/hers. Theres another sad side of this story. Youre probably noticing that your feed is changing. Your friend has liked a band, and this band has just begun promoting their posts, meaning that their posts will be shown - not only to their current fans - but the fans friends too. So now youre looking at a feed that you have no control over, and youd rather see posts from bands and artists that you yourself have already liked, instead of serving Facebook as yet another viewer of a promoted post. Cha-ching. No one likes this. Not even the people that are promoting their posts to reach people. Im not here to tell you what to do, but consider the above next time you want to promote your posts. I really understand you, and Im on your side. I too want to reach the following Ive gathered, but Id also like to maintain a democratic platform where everyone has the same conditions in trying to be heard.
