Dear friends As you know today we do not have a standard Gondi - TopicsExpress

Dear friends As you know today we do not have a standard Gondi which is understood by Gondi speakers from all 6 states where it is spoken. Today Gondi is influenced very much by local languages and we have many variations like Telugu-Gondi, Marathi-Gondi and Hindi-Gondi. Even in same state like in North Bastar and South Bastar, Gondi has many different varieties. This is common with any language For example Bangla spoken in Bangladesh and India are different. A very common word like water is called Jal in India and Paani in Bangladesh. Bangla spoken in Northern districts of Bangladesh like sylhet is very different from same spoken in Southern districts like Chittagaon. But they also have a standard Bangla which is used by newspapers and radio stations like BBC which is heard and understood by all Bengali speakers in both countries. To work towards a standard Gondi we are proposing a standardization of Gondi workshop of Gondi speakers and practitioners in Delhi between 21st and 25th July. This initiative is supported by Ministry of Culture, Govt of India. Any support provided to this initiative will be highly appreciated.
