Dear friends, Guantánamo prisoner Mohamedou Slahi has been - TopicsExpress

Dear friends, Guantánamo prisoner Mohamedou Slahi has been unlawfully detained for over 13 years. The United States subjected him to horrific torture. It has never charged him with a crime. A federal judge ordered Slahi’s release in 2010, rejecting the governments case, which was tainted by torture and coercion, and was just not credible. But the government appealed and Slahi remains behind bars. Slahi’s story is one of resilience: surviving torture, he continues to advocate for his rights as an innocent man. After mastering English in prison, he handwrote his unprecedented newly-released memoir, “Guantánamo Diary,” which author John Le Carré calls “a vision of hell, beyond Orwell, beyond Kafka.” Its pages are still peppered with reactions by the U.S. government, but the book makes it clear: he has been held unlawfully and unjustly for over a decade. It’s time for thousands of us to raise our voices in support of Slahi. As long as he remains unlawfully detained at Guantánamo Bay he will need your support. Will you join me to tell Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel to free Slahi? Thanks. (written by ACLU Action Team and supported and pasted here by Ellen)
