Dear friends, I am happy to announce that my history of Greek far-left political violence since the Junta has finally been printed. Greek Urban Warriors: Resistance and Terrorism 1967-2014 will go on sale in Athens on December 3, at Ianos and then a few other major Athens bookstores (and ultimately elsewhere). This is the English version. A Greek translation in under negotiation. This is a big moment for me. I put an alarming amount of time and effort into the research and writing. I hope a lot of you will come and lend moral support on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 (12 noon) at Ianos bookstore on Stadiou St. in Athens. I’ll talk about the book and answer questions, and with luck an old colleague/friend or two will say a few words as well. If I am right in the conclusions I draw from the forensic and documentary evidence, then a lot of the conventional wisdom about 17N and other Greek revolutionary groups is wrong. The debate could get lively. So far the informal reviews have been positive. I have reasonable hopes that a major Athens newspaper or two will write something next Sunday, November 30, in Greek. This is the first book to place Greek terrorism in its political and social context. It offers some exotic scenarios but with an absolute minimum of conspiracy theorizing. When last I heard, the price was €30, not bad for 400 pages of highly topical recent history. It is thus a good Christmas present for history buffs, especially those too young in the 1980s to understand a bewildering set of scandals and the Far Left’s response to them.
