Dear friends I continue to wonder everyday of my stay in this country how certain decisions are taken. The country has lost direction, Our Government has become so insensitive to the plight of citizens, the image of Botswana is not an issue anymore, Our value of tlhong botho is relegated to the annuls of history. Look, this government is not making progress on any issues that can improve the lives of its citizens. Unemployment is skyrocketing, salaries are not improving, citizens have been in the waiting list for plots for more than 26 years, Those in poverty are not graduating out of it, promotions are not given on merit, entertainment is dead, over 3000 students will not be sponsored this year, the health system has collapsed, projects which were started many years ago are still under construction and some abandoned eg stadia, airports, dams etc. highlights of this week 1.A brother to the President was appointed to the UB council a few months ago. this week, following a question in parliament it appeared according to the minister that qualifications for the appointed people ranged from certificate to Phd. Asked to say who has what, the minister read qualifications for all except for this brother. Upon further interrogation the minister said the brother in question did not submit his qualifications to the university and therefore he was unable to get them. 2. One minister who is a cousin to the state president moved for the adjournment of a debate on the Public Accounts Committee report and was successful though no reasons were advanced for adjournment. It happened because the BDP has the numbers. The report came back again for debate and his attempts to stop it failed this time around and the report was adopted. 3. It also came to the foe that the reason why Btv flighted a special programme for the BDP congress and not for other parties is because the president of the country attended the congress. The same reason was given when a complaint was raised regarding excursions to schools by politicians wearing party regalia 4. It also appeared that over 19000 people were deported in the last two years. Also that a 96 years old man who has stayed in Botswana for 70 years was bundled from a hospital bed and deported. I have noticed a question under certificate of urgency for the minister to explain to parliament tomorrow the circumstances surrounding the deportation of such an old and sickly man. All these are signs of a system that has completely collapsed.
