Dear friends, I have a little story for you: Imagine youre in front of your computer, doing your work at the office. Now, imagine anyone can come into your office. So everything you do is publicly available. Now imagine this, anyone can sit/stand next to you and watch everything youre doing. For as long as they wish. Annoying? Hold on, lets make things even more uncomfortable: imagine anyone can come and tell you how you can do a better job, i.e. how much of a bad job youre doing, and you get asked to do things differently, no matter what you do. And now, imagine you have to keep a smile on your face and be professional. Because if you speak your mind to the customer, no matter how right you may be, youll be called an asshole and lose your job. And now imagine you work on a contractual basis, always looking for new projects. To top it all off, you still need to do a good job or you wont be in your position next week. So basically no work insurance, no job security, and constantly having to prove yourself. And now, imagine the next guy who does what you do can do an ok job compared to you, perhaps has less skills, but they do it for 20% of your salary. Lets make things interesting, your working hours are never the same... Holidays are rare to none... No, its not a sales or promotion job, its not a contractors job, its not a consultant job, doctor, lawyer, customer service or hands-on job, nor is it a marketing job. Its not a social media job either, and not a researchers job. No. Its all those jobs in one and some. Throw in some politics, external forces, and other administrative tasks just to spice it up. That is what it takes (besides the fact that you have to work at becoming better on a daily basis) to be a DJ. So next time you see a DJ playing, dont be too quick to judge them, or go ask for stupid birthday requests. Please do remember: its his workplace, THINK before you speak to them. They take a lot of risk, sometimes even low pay so they get the job, just to make you dance, they stay up late and does research 24/7 to serve you with some great music that you should at least try and appreciate. And theres a good chance that the DJ knows more about music than you. And while youre on holiday, partying on a weekend or celebrating your birthday, they are working, even though it may seem like a hobby, just cause it looks cool doesnt mean its easy. So just try to respect this profession. There is nothing nicer than hearing that you did a nice job, this applies especially to the job of a DJ. Thank you for reading. Yours Truly, Swissivory
