Dear friends, Once again I continue my reflections on environment. We are organising a Diocesan Rally for the promotion of environment. You are all welcome to support and encourage it. PART I The diocesan Rally for the preservation and promotion of environment will take place on Wednesday, 12th November, 9.00 -11.00 am. It is on behalf of the Diocese of Poona. Therefore, the clergy, the religious and laity are invited to take part in it. We, the followers of Jesus Christ cannot be indifferent to the pollution and degradation of the environment and rampant depletion of the natural resources. The relationship with God demands that we are in relationship with the earth and the environment. Some people think of being only in relationship with God. Some think of relationship with God and fellow-humans. But authentic relationship with God includes relationship with nature also. This triple relationship is indivisible. Faith in God and love of God need to be expressed in our commitment to nature as well. There is nothing in the world that man has created by himself out of nothing. Scientists work on material objects that already exist. Artists express beauty on the basis of the universe that already exists. Only God can create by Himself out of nothing. God has created this earth. It is His gift to us. We must be grateful to Him always, giving thanks for the beautiful universe, for the sun, the moon, the stars, the air, water, minerals, plants and animals. Pope St. Clement said: “The great Creator and Lord of the universe commanded all these things to be established in peace and harmony, in His goodness to all and in overflowing measure to us…” The universe has not emerged by chance or by the process of evolution. Darwinism or evolutionism is not acceptable in as much it does not acknowledge the Creator. The Lord’s is the earth and its fullness, The world and all its peoples. It is he who set it on the seas; On the waters he made it firm Since, then, the goods of the earth are God’s gift to us, we must use them responsibly. To use a gift badly is to dishonour the generous benefactor. To be continued………….
