Dear friends and enemies alike, not the least you nazis out there. ;) I invite you to join me and enjoy this little masterpiece from Fredrik II, King of Prussia, better known as Frederick the Great. He was one of the greatest generals and military thinkers of all times. Studied in every single military academy with self respect and I have enjoyed reading his collected writings on warfare and generalship. Adolf Hitler admired him and constantly referred to him. Hitler claimed to have studied him and saw himself as his heir on military matters. Hitler also saw him as the embodiment of how a German ruler should be, act and think as as the icon of german nationalism. But Hitler apparently missed some peculiar points about Frederich the Great. 1. He was gay. 2. He did not wish to become king of Prussia as a very young man. He therefore tried to escape from Prussia together with his male lover and friend. 3. He preferred to compose music and play the flute instead of studying warfare or going to warfare. He regarded warfare as a neccessary evil and became very good at it, since his father forced him to study strategy and tactics since childhood, with Europes best generals as his teachers. 4. He preferred to speak and write in French, which was the official language of the Royal Prussian court. 5. He imposed legislation that allowed Jews to enter Prussia, where they were also granted the right to enter all trades and professions, high school and universities. And he befriended a deeply religious Jew, namely Moses Mendelsohn, whom lived and worked alongside him at the Royal Prussian Court. And while Hitler deeply despised so-called intellectuals, Frederick the Great was an incredibly well-educated man whom spoke several languages fluently. Thus you could argue that he was in many ways an hbtq-multicultural-politically correct man. ;) Now, enjoy the Firday evening, sit back, kick your feet up, pur a glass of wine, relax and enjoy the music by this great composer/general! youtube/watch?v=NWjM-XdlTGQ
