Dear friends and family, Many of you know that the journey my family has been on the last five years has been one of many challenges. That being said, Im so very grateful for the way it has impacted my own life, changing me for the better in so many ways. Naomis courageous battle with pediatric cancer (brain tumor), and the challenges she faces as a result of it, inspire me daily. In addition to the brain tumor, she also has Trisomy 21, or Down syndrome, which frankly has more to do with her phenomenal cuteness and determination than anything else! Naomi has remained stable since the initial surgery to remove the tumor when she was just seven weeks old. For the first few years, monitoring for regrowth of the tumor and creating treatment plans for all of the challenges it created, involved monthly hospital procedures and countless weekly appointments. While the intensity has diminished now that weve reached the five year mark, weekly appointments for therapies are still numerous. Including the appointments she has with therapists within the school system, she has as many as twelve total appointments each week, Monday through Saturday. That it a whole lot of therapy, time away from home and attention diverted away from Naomis typical big sister, Nora. Even so, we are doing very well as a family. Better still, Naomi is doing very well, constantly making progress, and no longer surprising me with her determination to do more! We have been supporting several charities over the last five years and have decided to make our unofficial team name very public. My dream is that we will someday be a legitimate non-profit organization. Until then, Naomis Novel Neurons will continue to participate in the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundations Ride for Kids in Marysville, Ohio, as well as the Dayton CureSearch Walk and the Miami Valley Down Syndrome Association Buddy Walk. These three fabulous organization are our designated charities. In addition to the annual Spring Fling for the PBTF Ride for Kids and the MVDSA Moms Sale, we are taking on the following fall fundraiser, thanks to Yankee Candle Company.
